RBBS_SF.EXE
Version 1.4
The RBBS_SF is a complimentary SPITFIRE utility which was
designed to convert your RBBS (v16.1 through at least v17.4)
users file so it is compatible with SPITFIRE (Version 3.?).
If you are running an existing RBBS Board and have changed to
SPITFIRE, this utility will be necessary to transfer your RBBS
USERS file to SPITFIRE'S users file, SFUSERS.DAT.
The program is initiated at the DOS prompt by typing in
RBBS_SF. However, the functions performed by the program is
dependent upon what files also reside in the directory.
IMPORTANT NOTE: RBBS_SF looks for and expects the RBBS user file
to be named USERS ... therefore, in the event you have the file
named something else (MAINU.DEF) for example, you will have to
ren it USERS.
1) Appending RBBS USERS file to an existing SFUSERS.DAT file:
When executed RBBS_SF will automatically search the
directory for a SFUSERS.DAT file. If found, the program will
display a message that a SPITFIRE BBS users file was found and
prompt you by asking if you wish to append your RBBS USERS file
to this file. To do so, respond by hitting the <Y> (for Yes) at
the prompt. RBBS_SF will then clear the screen and display a box
in the upper left hand corner which allows you to monitor the
progess as it converts the RBBS USERS file and appends it to
the existing SFUSERS.DAT file. When this is completed RBBS_SF
will automatically create the SFUSERS.PTR file required by
SPITFIRE Version 3.?. When finished creating the SFUSERS.PTR
file another window will appear displaying the name and board of
RBBS_SF's creator and also display a "Finished" message to indicate
the conversion process is completed. All that you will need to do
now is copy the newly created SFUSERS.DAT and SFUSERS.PTR file
to the directory you have set up as your work file path (or
SPITFIRE's default work file path, \SF\WORK) when installing
SPITFIRE.
If you respond by inputting <N> (for No), RBBS_SF will notify
you that you are about to overwrite the existing SFUSERS.DAT. To
abandon program execution press the <ESC> key and the program will
be terminated displaying a window with name and board of RBBS_SF's
creator and announcement that the program execution is "Finished".
Hitting any other key, other than the <ESC> key, will cause the
program to write to the existing SFUSERS.DAT file and append
the current records with those being converted from RBBS's USERS
file. When this is completed RBBS_SF will automatically create
the SFUSERS.PTR file required by SPITFIRE Version 3.?. When
finished creating the SFUSERS.PTR file, another window will appear
displaying the name and board of RBBS_SF's creator and also display
a "Finished" message to indicate the conversion process is completed.
All that you will need to do now is copy the newly created SFUSERS.DAT
and SFUSERS.PTR file to the directory you have set up as your work
file path (or SPITFIRE's default work file path, \SF\WORK) when
installing SPITFIRE.
2) Converting the RBBS USERS file to SFUSERS.DAT:
To convert your existing RBBS USERS file to SPITFIRE's
SFUSERS.DAT be certain both files reside in the same directory
and type in RBBS_SF at the dot prompt. RBBS_SF will then clear
the screen and display a box in the upper left hand corner which
allows you to monitor the progess as it converts the RBBS USERS
All that you will need to do now is copy the newly created SFUSERS.DAT
and SFUSERS.PTR file to the directory you have set up as your work
file path (or SPITFIRE's default work file path \SF\WORK) when
installing SPITFIRE.
3) Executing RBBS_SF without a RBBS USERS file:
If you attempt to run RBBS_SF and the program cannot access
the RBBS USERS file, a message will be displayed to the screen
indicating the file could not be found. It will also notify you
that program execution has been halted.

RBBS_SF has been tested to successfully convert RBBS - v16.1
throught v17.4 USERS files to SPITFIRE - Version 3.3 users file,
SFUSERS.DAT. Although, other versions were not available for testing,
RBBS_SF should work in converting other versions of RBBS USERS file
for use with SPITFIRE Bulletin Board System. However, if you find
RBBS_SF does not work with the version of RBBS you are using, please
leave a note to the sysop of either BBS listed below. Also, if you can
provide a small sampling (5-10 records should be adequate) of the
USERS file, the program can be modified for that particular version
and made available to you.
Jacque Shipley and The Mother Board BBS shall not be held
responsible for any damage incurred by the user to hardware,
software, or peripheral devices while running RBBS_SF. All
responsiblity lies with the user of the software.
RBBS_SF is distributed under the "Shareware" concept. You
are encouraged to distribute the software to others, in it's
original, unmodified condition, as long as you DO NOT charge, in
any way, shape or form, for this program.
If you find this program beneficial please contribute $5.00
to:

Although, it is not likely that this program will be used
continually, the $5.00 registration fee is nominal in comparison
to the option of manipulating your file data by hand.
